About the job
The Caritas Commission of the Diocese of Karonga is the social development arm of the Diocese responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring of programs in education, justice and peace, health, and sustainable livelihoods. The Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the existing positions as follows:
Position: Public Health Officer (PHO)
Reporting to: Health Desk Officer (HDO)
Location: Curia Office Complex, Mwenilondo, Karonga District
Main Duties:
i. Coordinate the implementation of Community Transformation (CT) -Health project activities in Chitipa, Karonga and Rumphi districts.
ii. Coordinate collection, preparation and compilation of data for the CT- Health project.
iii. Submit activity reports to the HDO for all activities undertaken in the CT- Health project.
iv. Compile monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual reports for the CT- Health project.
iv. Identify, document and publish success stories of routine activities in CT- Health project.
v. Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders in the CT- Health project including district level stakeholders
vi. Recruit, train and manage community health volunteers for the CT- Health project in Chitipa, Karonga and Rumphi districts
vii. Facilitate and coordinate mobile health clinics and community level activities for the CT- Health project in Chitipa, Karonga and Rumphi districts
viii. Prepare and make presentations during coordination meetings at different levels.
ix. Support the HDO in resource mobilization for the Health Department including proposal development.
x. Support the HDO in providing general support to the Diocese in providing health services.
xi. Support the HDO in supervision/ coordination of health services in all health facilities registered with the Government/ CHAM in the name of the Diocese of Karonga.
xii. Carry out any relevant work delegated by the HDO and/ or Caritas Secretary from time to time.
Qualification:
i. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Environmental Health or any related field with a clinical background (clinical medicine or nursing) from an accredited institution.
ii. A postgraduate degree in any of the related field will be an added advantage.
iii. Must be registered with either medical council of Malawi or Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi or other relevant regulatory bodies in health.
iv. Candidates with a combination of clinical and public health backgrounds will be preferred.
v. Must have at least three years’ work experience in both clinical and public health field.
Other important skills
i. Have good public presentation skills.
ii. Have excellent interpersonal as well as organizational skills.
iii. Good communication skills ability in English, Tumbuka and other local languages in the project impact area, (knowledge of Nkhonde and Lambya languages will be an added advantage).
iv. Ability to draft project activities’ budgets and reports.
v. Good command of ICT, using email, internet, search engines.
vi. Ability to travel to all three project sites periodically and work during odd hours when needed
vii. Knowledge of Catholic Social Teachings is a MUST.
